Long-term MotorActive brand ambassador, John Bowe, has kicked off his quest for a third Touring Car Masters (TCM) championship in style by coming away as the series points leader after the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide – the first of the eight rounds that make up the 2014 TCM season.
JB started season 2014 on a high by qualifying on pole for Race 1 – before crossing the finish line in second. For Race 2 of the Adelaide weekend, TCM flips the top 50 percent of the field, so JB started from 13th on the grid. After avoiding the huge crash at the start of Saturday’s Race 2, JB fought his way back up to second. “I had an awesome race,” says JB, “I had really good battles with a number of competitors. The whole TCM field has upped the ante and really lifted its game, there’s lots of good racing.”
For Sunday’s Race 3, JB started off pole again due to having accumulated the most points in the two Saturday races – and came home third. “Once again, I had a great race, with a number of great battles with the other competitors.” During Race 3, JB also managed to break his own Adelaide lap record, “I deliberately set out to do so,” says JB. “I wanted to show everybody that we’ve further developed the car and what a great job Synergy Race Engines is doing with Mustang Sally’s engine. We exclusively use Liqui-Moly lubricants throughout the whole drivetrain and we’re very happy with it, as we haven’t had a failure since we started using Liqui-Moly.”
Consistency over the weekend’s three races handed JB the overall round win. This gives him a three-point lead over Andrew Miedecke in second and a comfortable lead over 2013 series champion, Jim Richards.
“I would have liked to have won one of the races at Adelaide,” says JB, “however I got to take home the trophy, so I can live with that.”
JB’s next TCM outing is Round 2 at Winton, April 4-6.
