Diesel Power Up

I love the bush. I spend half my life out on the tracks or sitting around a campfire, so I’m all for protecting it as much as I can. However, since the government reduced the sulphur content in diesel from 50ppm to 10ppm (parts per million) back in 2009 to reduce emissions, every diesel 4WD I’ve had in the workshop has been using more fuel. The quality of diesel just isn’t what it used to be.

While I could go on about fuel quality all day, the reality is less sulphur means the bush will last longer and we can all keep hitting the tracks for years to come, so you won’t hear me complaining too much. Instead, I’ve gone looking for ways to combat the lower sulphur diesel and have come up trumps with Liqui Moly’s Diesel Clean & Boost additive.

The sulphur in the fuel, which isn’t a lubricant on its own, combines with nickel alloys in most metals such as those found in an engine’s fuelling system. This creates a eutectic alloy that can enhance the fuel’s lubrication properties, which helps to reduce wear within the fuel system. With the decreased lubrication, all of the moving parts of the injection system meet increased resistance and are forced to work harder to provide the same results, lowering overall engine efficiency and speeding up the wear rates of both metals and seals.

That’s where an additive like this Liqui-Moly Diesel Clean & Boost comes in. It adds lubrication qualities to the fuel system to reduce wear and tear and improve engine efficiency, freeing up any l ost power along the way. It also serves as a cl eaning agent for the fuel system, including the injectors, and prevents against internal wear. The cetane number, which is the diesel equivalent of octane for petrol, is increased too. This means the ignition properties of your fuel is enhanced, which allows for a more complete combustion, more power and improved fuel economy.

Diesel Clean & Boost suits all diesel engines, including those equipped with turbochargers or superchargers. It’s also suitable if you’re running a diesel particulate filter. So if you’re looking to get better performance and longer life out of your engine, despite the falling quality of the diesel you get at the pump, give a quality diesel additive a go.
